At Esther Nkou has grown her tailoring business from a roadside setup into a small workshop serving a steady stream of customers in Yaoundé Nkou, 24, began her career as an apprentice, learning sewing and garment construction over several years. After completing her training, she started working independently, initially taking small jobs and repairing clothes for passersby.“I didn’t have enough money to rent a shop at first,” she explains. “I started with what I had.”As demand for her services increased, she gradually saved enough to acquire sewing machines and rent a modest workspace. Today, she produces custom outfits for clients and occasionally trains apprentices of her own.Her growth has been driven largely by customer referrals and consistent service delivery. She focuses on meeting deadlines and maintaining quality, which she says helps retain clients.Her story highlights how vocational skills and gradual investment can enable young entrepreneurs to build sustainable businesses over time.
